The New Guitar Manufacturer’s Ecommerce Site

Visual Design
UX/UI
An eCommerce project meant to sell a manufactured guitars with an emphasis on customer service that may be lacking with larger companies. I started the UX/UI process through wireframes and mood boards, eventually leading to the finalized design. Additionally, I conducted a competitive audit that assessed what could make this branding unique from similar services and sites

Starting Brand New

Everyone’s heard of Fender, Epiphone, and Guitar Center. The challenge was not only how to make a guitar  brand unique, but the Ecommerce site as well. The first step was the logo.

The Vision

There are several sites that sell guitars either directly as a manufacturer or through vendors. However, one aspect I found very sparce was a focus on customer service. I decided that the solution to stand out would be emphasize a customer service availability seldom seen in other brands.

The Creative Audit

I researched the market and made a creative audit of the major competitors. By investigating commonalities and posibilites between the different sites, it provided a clear design path, along with a theme of effective customer service

Musician's Friend

  • Displays more varied categories in front page compared to other competitors.

  • The most upfront about return policy compared to competitors.

  • Customer service is prioritized and is more approachable by comparison.

Guitar Center

  • Provides financing option more readily by comparison

  • Customer service appears more corporate and distant.

  • Intensity of brand red is powerful and occasionally diverts attention from the product.

Reverb

  • Has overwhelming navigation and is not organized In categories like other competitors.

  • The least sophisticated search function of the competitors

  • The ordon to compare products is difficult to understand and doesnt appear to work between selected products but Instead all available similar products.

Possibilities

The Wireframes

With a defined brand and the visual posibilites in play, I began with the black and white wireframes that would be the layout and foundation of the site and the user’s experience.

Mood board

I drew inspiration for the branding, color scheme, layout and the user experience from several sources. Allowing for a clearer path to build on the bones of the wireframes.

Final Site

After conducting user testing on what were the intended users, we assessed the commonalities within the different experiences and used them to design the finalized product.
